Speedy was the last silent feature to star Harold Lloyd—and one of his very best. The slapstick legend plays the Yankees fan Harold "Speedy" Swift (Harold Lloyd), a scatterbrained New Yorker who can’t keep a job. He finally finds his true calling when he becomes determined to help save the city’s last horse-drawn streetcar, which is operated by his sweetheart’s grandfather. From its joyous visit to Coney Island to its incredible Babe Ruth cameo to its hair-raising climactic stunts on the city’s streets, Speedy is an out-of-control love letter to New York that will have you grinning from ear to ear.
The film was directed by Ted Wilde, the last silent film to be directed by him, and was shot in both Hollywood, and on location in New York City.
This Harold Lloyd silent classic will be screened at St. Mary’s and we welcome back Meg Morley who this time will be providing a new live score by the Meg Morley Trio.

Playing for her first silent film in 2016, Meg Morley has quickly become one of the UK's pre-eminent silent film accompanists, performing at various international film festivals (Birmingham's Flatpack, Bologna's Il Cinema Ritrovato, Pordenone's Le Giornate del Cinema Muto) and playing regularly at the London Cinema Museum where she is a resident pianist for the Kennington Bioscope. Her latest commission from the British Film Institute for The Marvelous Mabel Normand project, involved her improvising trio: a newly formed group, performing Morley's original music and recently being hailed in All About Jazz as “one of the most exciting on the current UK scene”.
