Laurel & Hardy silent short films with live banjo accompaniment by Dan Walsh

  • The Gatehouse Theatre Eastgate Street Stafford, ST16 2LT (map)

We are super excited to welcome clawhammer style banjo virtuoso Dan Walsh to the Pocket Film Festival. For the first time ever, Dan will be performing live banjo accompaniment to some classic Laurel and Hardy short films. Describing what Dan does is no easy task but at the heart of it is British, Irish and American folk music delivered with a healthy dose of funky grooves – all performed with his unique and dazzling take on clawhammer style banjo helping to challenge all preconceptions about the instrument.

So, we thought it would be great to add Dan’s astonishing musical creativity and lively humour to some classic Laurel and Hardy short films. Dan will provide live banjo accompaniment to some early Laurel & Hardy silent shorts, including Liberty, and all will be delivered with his usual musical flair and humour. Liberty, is a classic Laurel and Hardy high-rise comedy where the pair end up wearing each others pants!

We can’t think of a good reason not to visit the Gatehouse to watch what will be a brilliant performance by Dan Walsh, which promises plenty of musical genius and loads of genuine belly laughs!
